The Survivor Tree

Allison noticed all these folks standing around a tree at the 911 Memorial and asked what it was about -- we missed getting the brochure walking in.  During clean up after the buildings fell, a small stump of a tree was discovered that looked like it was still alive.  Care was taken to nurture it back and now it stands 20+ feet tall.  The original plant is rough and all the new growth, after 9/11/01, is long smooth limbs. It is the only tree that survived in the World Trade Center complex.

This is a picture of the first tower completed.  I didn't get the top but it has a spiral antenna that makes it the tallest building in NYC.  The reflective quality and the sky that day made it particularly beautiful.  The Survivor Tree is the shorter one in front.  Only after I looked at the picture did I discover the cloud formation -- to me it looks like a child's profile.

We used the hop on / hop off Water Taxi to get from Pier 84 (few blocks from my APT) to the 911 Memorial, then to Brooklyn, then to Statue of Liberty and back to Pier 84 -- traveling the Hudson River .. a great option for $30.
