Music washes off the dust of the day -- Carl Allen

April 16, 2013  Dr. Allen, artistic director of jazz studies, welcomed us to the Juilliard School with a tour, wine and dinner reception.  This was a private function for FWA, Financial Women's Association. This is the second function I have attended by FWA and have applied for membership, expecting that to go through in April.   After the reception, we were invited to the performance of two Juilliard Jazz Ensembles.  It was all original work, very enjoyable and all jazz -- complete with the head bobbing, finger snapping and various other visual indicators of being 'in the music'. The school is at 66th and 9th Ave .. 10 short blocks from my APT.  They provide a few hundred performances (some are recitals) a year - music, drama, dance, etc. -- most are free, or nominal charge.

Dr. Allen also said if you aren't making a few mistakes, you aren't living life to it's fullest.  Don't be afraid of making mistakes.  How you respond to mistakes is what builds character.  Words to live by.

Setting up (too chicken to take pic during performance) .. check out the organs
